LEARNING OBJECTIVE   

To review the current state of play in respect of Damp and Mould, and the many challenges faced by both landlords and end users in dealing with Damp and Mould hazards. Furthermore, the session will also explore Damp and Mould from a pathologic perspective and explore the multitude of different techniques and instruments which can be utilised whilst adopting a ‘Building Pathology’ approach to Damp and Mould to assist in accurate diagnosis and proactively identifying potentially at-risk properties.

AGENDA

  • Introduction to dampness in all forms
  • In depth and scientific review of the condensation cycle and the effects on mould growth
  • Review of current and proposed legislation and regulatory standards relating to Damp and Mould, most notably Awaab’s Law and the recent Government consultation.
  • Review of the current position and many challenges faced in dealing with Damp and Mould in respect of macro contributing factors such as fuel poverty, housing shortages and resultant overcrowding.
  • Exploring thermal efficiency, ventilation, and the crossover with the retrofit agenda
  • Exploring the role of data in dealing with Damp and Mould
  • Exploring damp measurement, and the tools and techniques which can be utilised as part of pathological approach to damp surveying.
  • Introduction to the Baily Garner diagnosis flowchart, a survey tool authored by the practice to assist in accurate damp diagnosis using Building Pathology
  • Review of case study properties and real-world examples of damp diagnosis using Building Pathology.
