The Mason Foundation’s original purpose was to provide support to local communities through exercise and encouraging them to complete 15 minutes of activity. They now have a programme called ‘Propel’ that offers training to businesses on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), this allows individuals with learning disabilities access to employment. In total they have four different programmes called Family Mile, Community Mile, Business Mile and Propel.
On Learning Disability Week, we visited and helped at the Elfrida Society community Sports Day in Highbury Fields, which The Mason Foundation was in partnership with. The Mason Foundation Trained staff and service users from the Elfrida Society and Centre 404 to be Community Mile Champions, these Champions delivered activities such as dodge ball, rounders and a Community Mile around the park. Other activities such as Cricket, Multisport, Tennis and Football was also held. The day provided a safe environment for individuals to socialise with their friends whilst taking part in exercise and having fun.
Leone Crowder of SEC who supported on the day said “It was amazing to see the community come together and have fun, these days help individuals step away from their day-to-day routine and see their friends whilst exercising also. The day was very well organised and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to support it”.
We would like to thank Vinci Facilities for nominating The Mason Foundation and some of their team who helped at the sports day. We would also like to thank The Mason Foundation for the amazing impact they are making on these peoples lives.
